The biggest modding site in PC gaming is taking a stance on AI
Summary
Nexus Mods, the largest PC gaming mod repository, is making AI disclosures mandatory for new mod uploads. Mod authors must declare whether AI was used and, for AI-assisted mods, provide a public explanation of how and where AI was used. AI tags will be more prominent on mod pages. Site owner Victor "Foledinho" Folmann stated the platform is "pro-human creativity" but won't ban AI-generated mods because AI is used throughout the creation process and a ban would drive its use underground. Nexus Mods also pledged not to use mods for AI training or sell/license them for that purpose. Additionally, the site is improving reuse controls and attribution, adjusting the Recently Added section to limit mods shown per author and restrict new account uploads, and launching controls to hide AI-generated content. Mod authors have 60 days (until January 2nd) to update existing mods before enforcement begins.
