1Password lets AI agents use your passwords without seeing them
Summary
1Password has introduced a new feature called 1Password for Agents that enables AI agents to sign into your accounts without accessing or handling your passwords. While bots don't get unrestricted access, you must approve each sign-in request. The system works by having an AI agent use a unique digital key to verify its identity to 1Password when it encounters a sign-in form. The app then notifies you about which credentials are needed and why. If you approve, 1Password fills in the login information directly, rather than giving it to the agent. Approvals are granted on your device, similar to two-factor authentication. After signing in, the agent continues its task without ever seeing your password. 1Password for Agents is designed to work with various popular AI agents such as Meta Muse, ChatGPT Work and Dots, Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Town. The company says more partners like Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, Instinct, Kernel, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo, and Wajo are working to support the feature, with additional integrations planned.
