Verified by Spotify badge lets you know this artist isn’t AI

Spotify has introduced a new verification badge to confirm artist authenticity and distinguish human creators from AI-generated content.

Summary

Spotify is rolling out a new “Verified by Spotify” badge featuring a green checkmark to help users identify authentic human artists. The program aims to combat the rise of spam and AI-generated music by confirming that a real person is behind the profile and content. At launch, profiles that primarily feature AI-generated music are ineligible, though the company notes that its stance on authenticity may evolve as the landscape changes.

To earn verification, artists must demonstrate consistent listener activity and engagement. Rather than requiring formal identification, Spotify evaluates an artist's digital footprint, including off-platform social media presence, concert history, and merchandise sales. Spotify anticipates that over 99 percent of searched artists will qualify at launch. Additionally, the platform is testing “nutritional labels” for artist profiles to display key details like milestones and touring information.
