David Sacks is no longer the White House AI and Crypto Czar

David Sacks, a venture capitalist and key figure in shaping the White House’s AI policy, has concluded his service as Special Advisor on AI and Crypto. His status as a Special Government Employee (SGE) limited his tenure to 130 days, a limit he stated he has now reached. Sacks will now co-chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), allowing him to offer advice on a broader range of technology topics. While Sacks wielded significant influence, his aggressive policy approach, such as attempting a blanket ban on state AI laws, proved politically divisive and alienated key voter groups. He also faced criticism for publicly disagreeing with President Trump on foreign policy. His departure follows a pattern of Trump reassigning controversial appointees to different roles rather than outright firing them.
