Google is making it easier to import another AI’s memory into Gemini

The Verge
Google introduced new Gemini features to easily import memory and chat history from other AI chatbots.

Summary

Google is launching two new features for Gemini, "Import Memory" and "Import Chat History," designed to ease the transition for users switching from other AI chatbots without needing to retrain the new AI.

The "Import Memory" tool involves copying a suggested prompt from Gemini into the previous AI, then pasting the output back into Gemini to transfer user preferences. The "Import Chat History" feature allows users to export their entire chat history from a previous AI (usually as a .zip file) and upload it to Gemini to resume conversations.

Additionally, Google is renaming "past chats" in Gemini to "memory." These import features are rolling out to free and paid consumer Gemini accounts, excluding business, enterprise, or under-18 accounts. This move follows a similar strategy recently implemented by Anthropic for its Claude AI.
