Nano Banana 2 brings Pro quality at Flash speeds, rolling out to Gemini app

Google announced the rollout of Nano Banana 2, officially named Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, to the Gemini app. This new model succeeds Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) and offers richer textures, sharper details, and improved instruction following compared to its predecessor. Key new features include subject consistency for maintaining character and object fidelity across workflows, and production-ready specifications supporting aspect ratios up to 4K resolution. Notably, Nano Banana 2 incorporates Pro features like accurate text rendering, translation, and advanced world knowledge for generating complex visuals like infographics and mockups. In the Gemini app, Nano Banana 2 replaces Nano Banana Pro across Fast, Thinking, and Pro models, though paid subscribers retain access to Nano Banana Pro for specialized tasks. The model is also integrating into AI Mode, Google Lens, Flow, and various developer platforms like AI Studio and Vertex AI, positioned for rapid generation, while Nano Banana Pro remains for high-fidelity, accuracy-critical tasks. Google is also enhancing safety by coupling SynthID watermarks with C2PA Content Credentials for greater transparency.
