After spooking Hollywood, ByteDance will tweak safeguards on new AI model

ByteDance is working to improve the safeguards on its new AI video generator, Seedance 2.0, after major Hollywood entities, including Disney and Paramount, accused the tool of violating copyright protections. The concerns arose after hyperrealistic videos featuring likenesses of actors like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and characters from franchises like Dragon Ball Z, went viral. In response to cease and desist letters and public criticism from groups like the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and SAG-AFTRA, a ByteDance spokesperson stated they respect intellectual property rights and are taking steps to prevent the unauthorized use of intellectual property and likenesses. Hollywood groups argued the tool engages in massive-scale copyright infringement and undermines the ability of human talent to earn a living.
