Covering electricity price increases from our data centers

Anthropic announced commitments to cover the electricity price increases that consumers face due to its data centers, acknowledging that training frontier AI models requires significant power (gigawatts). The company will address two main cost drivers: infrastructure upgrades and market tightening. Specifically, Anthropic will pay 100% of grid upgrade costs needed for interconnection through increases to its own monthly electricity charges, ensuring these costs are not passed to consumers. Furthermore, they will work to bring net-new power generation online and, where generation is not yet ready, cover demand-driven price effects. Anthropic is also investing in curtailment systems and grid optimization tools to reduce strain during peak demand. Beyond direct costs, the company is committed to local investment, environmental responsibility, and supports federal policy changes like permitting reform to speed up energy development.
