GitHub adds Claude and Codex AI coding agents

GitHub has introduced Claude by Anthropic and OpenAI’s Codex AI coding agents directly within its platform via a new public preview. This feature is available in GitHub, GitHub Mobile, and Visual Studio Code for users with a Copilot Pro Plus or Copilot Enterprise subscription. This integration is part of GitHub's Agent HQ initiative, aiming to embed AI agents natively into daily developer workflows. Developers can now select Copilot, Claude, Codex, or custom agents when creating tasks, with each agent consuming a premium request. Mario Rodriguez, GitHub's chief product officer, stated this allows developers to move from idea to implementation using different agents without context switching. GitHub is rapidly integrating rival AI models, having already included models from Anthropic, Google, xAI, and OpenAI in Copilot. Access to Claude and Codex will expand to more Copilot subscription types soon, and GitHub plans to integrate more agents from Google, Cognition, and xAI into its tools.
